“It’s definitely a basketball themed party that any sports fan would love! – Kara”
For my son’s 4th birthday, I put together an easy Basketball party for the biggest little basketball fan that I know. All the party styling was done by myself and I ordered a handful of simple and affordable items to tie it all together and kick it up a notch. From the tablescape and sweets, to the decorations and favors, to the ultimate Basketball Junior World Sports Games jumper, the party was truly a SLAM DUNK!
In planning the party, I started with my email invitation from RedCappi, a DIY platform that allows you to customize all your email contacts and event details.
On the party day-of, I adorned the table with a Party City NBA Spaulding tablecloth, and draped a second tablecloth on the back wall of my kitchen to create a basketball court backdrop and an awesome photo opportunity. I added matching colorful balloons arranged in clusters up top of the photo backdrop to give us a home win.
The dessert table featured unique, custom & delicious handmade goodies by KK’s Bakeshop, including cupcakes, fondant basketball cupcake toppers, cookies and chocolate covered Oreos- SUPER AFFORDABLE! You can order whatever it is you need to match your theme from KK’s Bakeshop directly online and trust that you’ll have a dessert table ready for the stars!
All the sweets and desserts were featured on cake stands and serving plates onto which I had fastened basketball patterned ribbon and glued coordinating basketball-language for a really cute overall display. Here is a closer look at my cakestand so you can see the details up close. In a previous blog, I have discussed in detail how to customize your cake stand to make it work for any party theme.
I kept it simple and placed the party favors right on top of the table and invited all to help themselves to their choice of mini plastic basketballs from Target, wooden basketball peg games from Dollar Tree and Basketball Nightlights from the 99 Cent Only Store.
Outside, we held a slam dunk contest. The kids and adults alike had a blast with the Junior World Sports Jumper I ordered from Party On Rentals, which featured five popular sports activities (including basketball) all under one inflatable play structure. It was so much fun!
Oh, and of course no party would be complete without the right attire, so the birthday boy wore a $5 Basketball long sleeve T-shirt from Target, with neon green jeans from The Gap. For my daughter, I just purchased a smaller size of the same shirt from Target, with a coordinating neon green tutu from The Gap. It was totally perfect!
